Child Care Institutions (CCIs) are established in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. This legislation empowers the UT administration, either independently or in collaboration with voluntary organizations, to establish homes in each district or group of districts.
The primary purpose of these CCIs is to rehabilitate and provide all the basic need like food, clothing, education and shelter needs of Children in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP) and Children in Conflict with Law (CCL). The main focus is to contribute to the holistic development of children until their eventual social re-integration through non-institutional care.
In pursuit of this mission, Leh district has total of 15 Child Care Institutions including those run by NGOs & Govt Run, whereas Kargil District has total of 6 Child Care Institutions including those run by NGOs & Govt.
