Aimed at improving the welfare of senior citizens and enhance the quality of life of elderly individuals who either face abandonment or lack adequate care and support, the Social Welfare Department, UT Ladakh is establishing two old age home in Leh and Kargil district respectively. Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 also mandates State/UTs to establish and maintain a minimum of one old age home in each district.
The old age home in Kargil is being established at Kurbathang in Kargil, and, in Leh district at Saboo Thang.
