The "Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities” is a project of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, GoI, to establish National Database for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and issue a Unique Disability Identity Card to each individual with disabilities. This initiative is designed to promote transparency, efficiency, and facilitate the seamless delivery of government benefits to persons with disabilities, ensuring uniformity in the process.
Additionally, the project aims to streamline the monitoring of both the physical and financial progress of beneficiaries at various levels of implementation. This includes tracking progress from the village level to the block level, district level, state level, and up to the national level. By doing so, the project contributes to enhanced accountability and effective management across all tiers of implementation.
The implementation of the "Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities” project is currently underway in the Union Territory of Ladakh. Every endeavor is being made to ensure comprehensive coverage of all Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) under the UDID Project. As of January 2024, a total of 3,591 UDID cards have been successfully issued to individuals with disabilities in the region.
